Nine Leading Business School Participated in the 13th Sofaer International Strategic Case Competition (SICC)
Tel Aviv - The final round of the Sofaer International Case Competition (SICC) 2017 took place last Wednesday,(May 17th), at Tel Aviv University’s Coller School of Management. The SICC is an annual international strategic case competition on an Israeli company operating in the global arena. Nine MBA teams from leading international business schools participated in the 13th competition.
The subject of this year’s case study' which was developed especially for the completion, was Nano Dimension, an innovative Israeli company that engages in Disruptive Materials Printing. The challenge of the competition was to suggest a long tem strategy by which the company can grow and enter new markets in order to establish itself as a global leader in its field.
This year, in addition to the team from the Coller School of Management, the participating teams came from: Cambridge Judge Business School (UK), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), University of Cologne (Germany), Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary),
The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (Hong Kong), Rady School of Management at UC San Diego (USA), Rotman School of Management (Canada),
University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa).
The winning presentation was by the Copenhagen Business School of Denmark who competed in the final round with the Rotman School of Management (Canada) and the Cambridge Judge Business School (UK). The winning team received the Barton M. Biggs Award in the amount of $10,000, given on behalf of the donors -the Sofaer family.
Prof. Moshe Zviran, Dean of the Coller School of Management, emphasized the importance of the competition: “The Sofaer International Case Competition is an important element of international cooperation and it strengthens the connection of the world of entrepreneurship and innovation in Israel with the best business schools in the world. The competition allows for a deeper understanding of the challenges of the global operations of this Israeli company, which stands at the forefront of the technology of 3D printing, and offers groundbreaking solutions which express innovation and entrepreneurship in the company’s business management.”
Udi Aharoni and Dr. Ravit Meitar, Directors of the Eli Hurvitz Institute of Strategic Management noted that “the competition provides Nano Dimension with creative solutions which are outside of its daily routine. The insights that it receives in the context of the international competition are original and reflect a different approach.”
According to Udi Aharoni, who also initiated and managed the competition : “The solutions in the finals offered the company methods of growth, both in the current business model and in a breakthrough model of overlapping areas in which the company has a competitive advantage, in order to reduce dependence on the PCB market. The winning solution suggested entering complementary areas, while offering practical proposals for cooperation with companies from Israel and abroad in the solar energy field."
Amit Dror, CEO of Nano Dimension, concluded that “the competition is an exceptional opportunity for companies. The team that won presented a coherent analysis to reach the main market and an additional market which matches our current strategy. We will make an in-depth examination of the solutions which were brought up in the finals in order to refine the proposals and implement the students' conclusions that are suitable to the company.”
