Safety in Israel

Security is our highest priority. Like all public institutions in Israel, Tel Aviv University employs a network of security personnel covering all campus entrances and patrolling 24 hours a day. The university’s security department maintains close contact with government security agencies in order to ensure the safety of the students, staff and visitors.

Tel Aviv University strictly obeys the security policies established by its security department and by Israel's Ministry of Education:

  • Transportation to all programmed activities, such as seminars, trips and conferences, is handled by the buses chartered by the university.
  • All field trips are cleared in advance, by "Moked Teva," a security center run jointly by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel and the Ministry of Education, which coordinates with all the relevant authorities. In accordance with the center’s rules, security and trained first-aid personnel, carrying first aid kits, escort the visitors on their field trips. The center receives updates on the groups' whereabouts at all times.
  • Tel Aviv University does not permit travel into the area referred to as the "Occupied Territories" over the green line, except in very specific areas determined safe by Israel's security services: examples of exceptions are the Old City of Jerusalem, and the north banks of the Dead Sea.

Last year approximately 2 million tourists visited Israel.  While international media coverage often focus on the conflict, tourists in fact find Israel to be a safe and welcoming country to visit. Check out the following articles to see why more and more tourists are choosing Israel, especially Tel Aviv, as their vacation destination.
