Study Abroad
Once you have been accepted into the study abroad program and offered a placement, there are several steps you must take in order for your experience abroad to count toward your MBA.
Pre-departure Requirements
- Please review the Program Regulations and sign the Exchange Agreement form.
- Make sure you have medical insurance to cover your stay abroad. Tel Aviv University is not responsible for your overseas health insurance.
- You must participate in the “Presentation Skills Workshop" before you go abroad. The workshop is held collectively for all the departing students, typically in June.
- While Tel Aviv University covers your tuition, some programs will require you to pay a nominal fee for various administrative costs. You are responsible for covering this fee. While you are abroad, you are also responsible for covering the fee for any course material, as well as travel and living expenses. Information on living expenses can be found in the summaries written by returning exchange students.
When You Arrive
- Behave properly! Remember, you are representing Tel Aviv University’s Sofaer Global MBA. We expect you to represent us commendably, both personally and academically.
- Choose the courses you wish to take at the host university.
- Fill out the Credit Recognition Form and send it, together with relevant syllabi, to the Head of the Student Exchange Program. You must submit this form prior to the start of class. Your credits will only be recognized with prior approval.
- For each course you must state the number of hours study hours (the number of class meetings multiplied by the number of hours per class meeting).
Credit Recognition
- Courses must be approved in advance or you run the risk of not receiving credit for a course.
- The semester unit calculation is as follows:
- Less than 18 hours = 0.5 Coller credit
- 18-26 hours = 1 Coller credit
- 27-35 hours = 1.5 Coller credits
- 36-40 hours = 2 Coller credits
- The maximum number of semester credits that will be recognized is 6, even though some partner universities may require you to take more courses or have a higher total number of hours. The minimum number of semester units that can be recognized is 2 (only for Sofaer students).
- Language courses will not be recognized.
- Courses equivalent to those that you have already taken at Tel Aviv University will not be recognized.
- We expect you to take your academic experience abroad seriously. We therefore only recognize courses for which you receive an A or B. We will only recognize one grade that is equivalent to 70-79 on Tel Aviv University’s scale.
- Upon completion of your studies, courses will be registered in your transcript as “exemptions” without grades. They will not be recognized in your final grade average, but will be recognized as part of your 28 required credits.
- The courses will be registered in Tel Aviv University’s system only after receipt of the transcripts from abroad and your exchange summary.
The Student Exchange Program Coordinator will make the calculations and will be the final arbiter on the issue. Click here for further information.
*Please note: You may be accepted for special courses abroad in specific and rare niche areas of study that cannot be recognized upon your return to Israel. In such cases, you will have to decide in advance whether or not you wish to take the course.
